Renewal Can be Tricky Business

This is my bearded dragon, Rocky, who is shedding most uncomfortably. Some people got dogs during the pandemic, and instead, I rescued a reptile.

He helps me out when I work from my home office, and here you can see his old skin is getting opaque and hard and thick and tight and itchy for him.

And he’s not very appreciative of his daily baths to help soften it up. Rocky kind of sits around and waits for his skin to come undone.

I understand. I feel like it’s been that kind of a February for a lot of people I talk with, it has been for me. I’m growing, but it’s patchy and tough and nothing feels like it quite fits.

But the miracle is that his skin will eventually let go.

He will be bright and colorful and content in his new skin.

I’ve seen it happen, renewal…it just take more time than it feels like it should, and some daily self-care.
